Hard, sticky, and sugary foods should be minimized and avoided during orthodontic treatment. Hard and sticky foods can become caught between your wires and brackets, causing damage. Sugary foods can cause tooth decay and other dental issues. In addition to the following examples of foods to avoid, you should also avoid biting your nails, pencils, pens, and chewing on foreign objects as these behaviors can damage your orthodontic appliances as well.
